Ingredients:
For the Cake:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for the chocolate swirl)
- 1/4 cup boiling water (for the chocolate swirl)
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for the chocolate swirl)
Instructions:
Prepare the cake:
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round or square cake pan, or line it with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes) using an electric mixer.
- Add eggs and vanilla: Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then, mix in the vanilla extract.
- Add dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry flour mixture in three parts, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
